On June 1, 2026, guided by the China Culture and Arts Development Promotion Association and supported by the China Friendship and Peace Development Foundation, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, Adopt-a-School Foundation, and BUFFALO International Logistics, the “Silk Road Painting and Calligraphy Exhibitionwas officially inaugurated at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The exhibition was organized by the China-Africa Cultural Promotion Association and the Beijing Ancient Road Lanting Art Gallery.

Under the theme “Telling Chinese Stories Well, Promoting China-Africa Cultural Exchange,” the exhibition brought together a delegation of renowned Chinese calligraphers and painters, representatives from South Africa’s education sector, young students, and guests from the cultural and artistic fields. Through displays of calligraphy and painting, cultural interactive experiences, and art exchange activities, the event further deepened the friendship and mutual trust between the peoples of China and South Africa.

During the opening ceremony, representatives from the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and the Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg, as well as officials from South Africa’s Department of Basic Education, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and GIBS leadership, attended the event.

Zhao Jixian, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, stated in his address that the friendship between China and South Africa has a long history, and that people-to-people and cultural exchanges have yielded fruitful results. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, cooperation between China and South Africa in culture, education, tourism, and other fields has continued to deepen, becoming an important part of the China-South Africa Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the new era.

He noted that 2026 marks the “Year of China-Africa People-to-People Exchanges.” The exhibition not only showcases the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture but also further enhances mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and South Africa, playing a positive role in promoting people-to-people connectivity and mutual learning among civilizations between China and Africa.

Cyril Madiba, Acting CEO of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange for youth development. He said: “This is particularly important for the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, because broadening horizons can change lives. When a student encounters international art for the first time, watches how artists tell stories with brush and ink, or participates in cultural activities, they may see the world from a fresh perspective and rediscover their own potential.”

As a key supporting partner of the event, BUFFALO leveraged its resource and platform advantages built over years of deep commitment to the Chinese and African markets, providing comprehensive support for the Chinese artists’ delegation to South Africa, exhibition coordination, and artwork transport, thereby contributing to the success of this China-Africa cultural exchange event. CEO of BUFFALO remarked, “Enterprises should not only be participants in economic and trade cooperation but also drivers of people-to-people exchange. BUFFALO has long been committed to facilitating connectivity and trade between China and Africa, while actively supporting education, culture, and youth exchange programs. The ‘2026 Silk Road Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition’ has built a new platform for deepening mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between the peoples of China and South Africa. Going forward, BUFFALO will continue to serve as a bridge and bond, contributing to people-to-people connectivity and shared development between China and Africa.”

During the event, Chinese artists also engaged in interactive calligraphy and painting sessions with South African students and the public, offering participants a close-up experience of traditional Chinese culture’s allure and further strengthening exchanges and friendship between the youth of the two countries.

The successful staging of the “2026 Silk Road Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” not only provides an important window for South African society to understand traditional Chinese culture but also injects fresh vitality into deepening cultural exchanges and people-to-people friendship between China and South Africa.

In the future, BUFFALO will continue to play its role as a bridge, actively supporting China-Africa cultural, educational, and youth exchanges, and contributing to the deepening of China-Africa friendly relations and the building of an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
